Only Fossils Set in Stone

The clock’s progression
no indication: our place
setbacks suppress

potential values
limited horizon shadows
qualities of life

Time forgets. People
adapt, their short lives affect
impermanent change

The History of Doors: Poem

Ancient olive-wood barriers
gave way: stone doors on stone pivots
swung, but by and by doubles came
along their merry way; later
unavoidable advancement
reassured subjects who revered
gods of doors. “Meaningful archways
ushered superstition, became
lord’s promise or symbolic sway
showing marks of consequence to
wealth, prestige, or reputation
attached to world’s persons / until
religion replaced kings and then
its doors became most grand displays
