Lost Dog (Poem)

I approach from a blind curve at
About 45 mph
Large black mass slows my affront—red
Tuft visible beneath flutters
Biggest black birds I’ve ever seen—
Proximity is everything
Appearing out of place—my heart
Drops a beat as I recognize
Breed, loosed upon the street as if
Wildly accustomed to its risk.
